Celebrating 37 years on August 3, 2024

What began 36 years ago when three Boston College graduates swam across the Sound and raised $5,000, has grown into a series of events, raising more than $1 million annually. These events support thousands of people each year.

The Swim Marathon has seen upwards of 190 swimmers and 100 boaters participate in this one day swimming event from Whitehall Beach in Port Jefferson, NY to Captain’s Cove Seaport in Bridgeport, CT. The journey measures 25 kilometers (15.5 miles) and can take anywhere from 5.5 hours to over 10 hours to complete. It’s truly an amazing accomplishment for a wonderful cause!

A Fundraising Event

By obtaining donations, swimmers help Swim Across the Sound raise funds to provide cancer patients and their families with programs and support. Thanks to the swimmers, boaters, donors and event sponsors, the Swim is able to assist these families at a time when they need to focus on their health and well-being.

For swimmers who may need fundraising support, please reach out to Alyssa Amaturo or call 475-210-4657.

For the Public

Members of the public are invited to join the fun at Captain’s Cove, located at One Bostwick Avenue in the historic Black Rock section of Bridgeport, and cheer on the swimmers as they cross the finish line.

As the swimmers finish, Captain’s Cove Seaport is alive with music, entertainment and a children’s activity area; the boardwalk shops and restaurant will also be open. The swimmers start to arrive at the finish at approximately 2:30 p.m., depending on the weather, and will continue crossing the finish line until 6:30 p.m. An awards ceremony takes place shortly after all the swimmers have arrived at Captain’s Cove.
