Lisa and Tom Miklos
2008 Volunteers of the Year
Lisa and Tom Miklos regularly help out at the Sikorsky-SWIM Walk, the SWIM's Cancer Survivor Nights at Bluefish Stadium, the Swiss Army Sale, the SWIM Marathon and by selling paper fish at WalMart. Those who have worked with them say they are the kind of volunteers who continuously give of themselves and ask nothing in return.
Lisa became involved with the SWIM many years ago shortly after her mother Norma Mozier was diagnosed with cancer for the first time. Four years ago, Tom joined the SWIM family just after Norma received her second diagnosis. Both Norma and Lisa's father John were lost to cancer.
Lisa currently works at Connecticut Saw and Tool and is attending school for medical coding, while Tom works for Sears. Both are willing to help in whatever way they can, but they always keep the focus on the cause. No matter what they are doing, they make it fun. In addition to a love for travel, they belong to St. Joseph's in Shelton and participate in a dart league. Tom's parents Jean and Frank, Tom's brother Bob, Lisa's sisters Laura and Pamela, their brother-in-law Toby, their niece Shara and their nephew Jeremy attended the event to see them receive their award.
