SWIM's Sunset Sail Raises $25,000 for Breast Cancer Patients & Programs

More than 350 participants boarded St. Vincent's SWIM Across the Sound 7th Annual Sunset Sail on September 12, 2009 and cruised along Long Island Sound. The Sail took place aboard the Port Jefferson/Bridgeport Ferry and raised more than $25,000 for the SWIM's Breast Cancer programs, which include mobile mammography screenings, breast cancer support groups and financial assistance to patients battling the disease.

The three-and-a-half-hour cruise included live music, food, wine, beer, raffles and a beautiful view of the Sound at sunset. Kathy Young, chair of the Sunset Sail, was pleased with the turnout. "The Sunset Sail is just a fun event," said Young. "Everyone comes back year after year to enjoy the great company and scenery."

Bridgeport & Port Jefferson Steamboat Company, Connecticut Distributors, Inc.; Feroletto Steel, Co. Inc. and Sinoway, McEnery & Messey, PC were the other major sponsors of the event. All of the beer and wine was provided by Connecticut Distributors, Inc. of Stratford and Vazzy's of Bridgeport provided the food.
